How long is too long to feel pain over rape? ?

I know your not supposed to dwell on pain self pity for too long but how do you tell If it's too long and also how do you tell if your having flashbacks or are feeling self pity what's the difference? How long is a rape survivor allowed to feel pain before she shoult feel guilty for wallowing in self pity?
